Residencias / Bill Brand
Bill Brand is a multifaceted artist best known as an avant-garde filmmaker, a video artist and a film preservationist. His works have exhibited extensively since 1973 around the world in museums, festivals and independent film showcases. His 1990 feature documentary Home Less Home has been seen worldwide on television and was screened at major film festivals including the Berlin Film Festival and New Directors/ New Films Festival. Bill Brand lives in New York City and is Professor of Film and Photography at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. He also teaches film preservation at the New York University graduate Moving Image Archiving and Preservation program. Since 1976 he has operated BB Optics, a film preservation service and laboratory specializing in small gauge films and films by artists serving museums, libraries, archives and independent filmmakers.
Residency at Taller Verde:
In December 2014 Bill Brand was an artist resident at Verónica Artagaveytia’s “Taller Verde” in Neptunia, Uruguay. During his stay he made photograph’s and pencil drawings from the natural environment and portraits of his Uruguayan friends and acquaintances from Montevideo. The residency provided a time of solitude and reflection.
